Tonks took it.

That's the line we're going with. If that's what it takes. I think my boy might be officially pacifier free! If you're reading this, you're likely Erica or Gran (Hi ladies!). You know that my kiddo has been madly in love with that infernal device since birth. Knowing that an end is in sight is awesome. And knowing that he orchestrated it himself is even better.

Two nights ago, Ryan didn't ask for his paci before going to sleep. I thought I'd just see what happened. I had one in my pocket while we were rocking, just in case. I slipped quietly from his room as he settled for the night and waited...and waited...and waited. Generally he wakes in the middle of the  night during what we call the "paci crisis", and we go in, replug him, and he goes back to sleep. He didn't wake!

The next morning (yesterday) he was hunting around for it and kind of whining about not having it. I feigned ignorance and told him I had no idea where it was. Truthfully, I only actually KNOW where two of them are right now.

1. the drawer of my nightstand
2. behind the big plates in the kitchen cabinet

He'll come up with one sometimes that I haven't seen in months, but I'm not sure where he's hiding those.

He proceeded to yell at the cat, Tonks, and tell me that she took it. We're going with that. He followed her around while I got ready for work and asked for it back. Tonks blinked innocently, and all was forgotten when the waffles came out.

When he came home from daycare in the afternoon, he asked Tonks for it again, but was quickly redirected at the prospect of helping me cook dinner. He learned to mash potatoes last night, so that was fun.

Later in the evening he had a MELT DOWN when it was time for bed. We're talking uncontrollable sobbing. I think it was pacifier-related, but he didn't seem able to really articulate that. He only asked for it twice in the midst of his sobs. What finally settled him was to brush his teeth (WEIRDO). With teeth brushed (again), he finally settled down for the night...without the pacifier.

He woke this morning without asking for it at all. I think we might be there. I love that he just kind of took care of getting rid of it when he was ready, and that I didn't have to really push him at all. He's such an awesome little guy. Though I'm glad the paci crisis is finally over, I don't think I'll soon forget the tiny little squeak of "Paci go?" when he couldn't find the darn thing.
